This week is the annual trip to The Park. Last year, karting patriarch Terry Traeder revived the famous Quincy Grand Prix. Its return sparked a passion for pushing man and machine to the edge around one of the most challenging road courses in North America. On June 8-9, karters will tackle the 1-mile course once again with thousands of spectators ready to camp out surrounding the layout and cheer on the intense action all weekend. EKN’s Rob Howden talks with Mr. Traeder of Quincy Grand Prix to learn more about the historic race.

One of the most unique events in the United States, if not the world, is set to take place on June 21-23 at the New Castle Motorsports Park. The 10th edition of the 24 Hours of America will test the will of man and machine for the twice around the clock event in spec karts and those trying to reach the 24 hours in their own karts powered by Briggs & Stratton 206 engines. EKN’s Rob Howden talks with Chris McCoy of Endurance Karting by ProCup to learn more about this event and the many others they host and promote throughout the season.

The ‘Operation Grassroots’ is a podcast geared solely on the foundation of the sport. The hub of the show will be discussion centered on the grassroots level of karting, from club racing to regional racing, all focused around the Briggs & Stratton 206 engine platform. Our #OperationGrassroots movement has been based around the Briggs powerplant, with the ultimate goals of bringing new people into the sport and igniting the spark of former racers to come back into what is the most economical form of karting.

One of the newest regional programs to hit the midwest area is the Buckeye Karting Challenge. A true racing series for the racers, by the racers, began in 2018 with a three-race series promoted by a group of volunteers. Racers and sponsors jumped on board and now the 2019 program opened up with its largest turnout at the G&J Kartway in Camden, Ohio. EKN’s Rob Howden spoke with Scott Smith of the BKC program to discuss its creation and the future in this edition of the ‘Operation Grassroots’ powered by Briggs & Stratton Racing.

The Superkarts! USA Pro Tour reached the halfway point of the 2019 season, hosting the 10th edition of the SpringNationals. On the May 3-5 weekend, competitors traveled to the Utah Motorsports Campus in Erda, Utah for Round Three and Four of the championship program. The weekend was full of exciting racing in the programs first visit since July 2012 to the 9/10-mile ‘Star Trek’ course. Briggs & Stratton racers in the Midwest are craving for the weather conditions to warm up and start the 2019 season. The Cup Karts North America program opens up its season with the Spring Nationals, set for Concept Haulers Motor Speedway in Norway, Illinois on May 3-5. The 2019 season is underway in northern California with the KPX Karting Championship already hosting the first of their six events on the year. The grassroots regional program has transitioned to become an International Kart Federation (IKF) series, welcoming Briggs & Stratton 206 competitors along with IAME KA100 racers. The Dual Weekend Double Double program concluded with the series finale for Challenge of the Americas. The Rok Cup USA program hosted Rounds Five and Six at the Simraceway Performance Karting Center in Sonoma, California on April 5-7. Nine class champions were decided with six tickets to the Rok Cup Superfinal in Italy, and three tickets to the ROK the RIO in Las Vegas. The second half of the #DualWeekendDoubleDouble featured the 2019 opener for the United States Pro Kart Series presented by MG Tires. The program began its seventh season with the Southern Grand Prix, held on April 5-7 at the Ocala Gran Prix in central Florida. The event welcomed over 160 entries for the seven IAME categories, the highest total since the 2016 season.
