Grassroots racing has become a focal point of EKN for the last number of years, as the sport’s path to success is reaching the masses at the local level. The spark surrounding the industry around the club and entry level events have also triggered bringing the sport to the people - including street races. One of the most historic of the sport here in the United States is the Quincy Grand Prix. What began in 1970, the rejuvenated race through Quincy, Illinois’ South Park is set for a third edition under the helm of karting hall of famer Terry Traeder. The karting legends talks with EKN’s Rob Howden in this edition of the Industry Insider to discuss the June 13-14 event, which will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Quincy Grand Prix.

The premier winter series on the left coast began its 13th season by welcoming over 100 entries to the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona on January 24-26. It was a picture perfect weekend that saw great racing as usual around the 7/10-mile circuit. Rob Howden and David Cole discuss the action in this new episode of the ‘EKN Debrief’ - thanks to Leading Edge Motorsports. The two round weekend is the first event on the 2020 calendar year, as racers in IAME Swift, KA100, X30, SSE and Margay Ignite competition begin their season of racing. The 45th anniversary of the World Karting Association Daytona KartWeek is upon us. In 1974, karts hit the World Center of Racing - the Daytona International Speedway - for the first edition of the annual event between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This year, three events - including the Manufacturers Cup Series, Road Racing and Dirt World Championships - will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida from December 27-30. Rob Howden and David Cole discuss the event in Episode 3 of the OutLap - presented by Briggs & Stratton. They talk about the history of KartWeek, all three events for 2019, look back at their personal memories of Daytona, and Howden interviews WKA President Kevin Williams and Rick Fulks.

It has been just over a year since the launch of the GFC chassis brand, led by American karting star Gary Carlton. The NorCal native has traveled all over the globe competing at the international level before hanging up the helmet at the end of 2017. Carlton wanted to continue to live his passion, and thus the GFC brand was born. It has blossomed into a full race team and driver development program, set for further expansion throughout the United States in 2020. EKN’s Rob Howden spoke with Carlton about the past, present and future of GFC.
